A Contemporary Take on Holiday Cheer at the Illuminate San Francisco Festival of Light

December 06, 2017

One of the great delights of the holiday season is the opportunity to see all the marvelous decorations going up on homes and businesses around the country. Some are flamboyant displays of spinning snowmen and life-size rooftop reindeer; some are more subdued arrangements of evergreen, tinsel, and lights; and some are much more radically experimental. Into the last category falls the Illuminate San Francisco Festival of Light, a nearly two-month event that’s brought breathtaking light installations to the city for five years running. Thirty-seven unique installations have been erected in various neighborhoods across San Francisco. You can experience these LED marvels on one of several free guided tours that take place each week. And if those tours don’t fit your schedule, you can easily set out on your own with one of the handy self-guided itinerary charts. For more information on this fantastic public art experiment, visit the homepage of the Illuminate San Francisco Festival of Light.
