Lions and Dragons and Dogs!

February 06, 2018

As the sun sets on the Year of the Rooster, San Francisco is making plans to ring in the Year of the Dog with the biggest, most breathtaking Chinese New Year Parade in North America. On Saturday, February 24, you can join the more than one million folks who will pour into SF’s Chinatown to gaze in wonder as costume-clad school kids, elegant stilt walkers, and high-flying acrobats crisscross their way along the parade route. Marching drummers pound out the traditional rhythms of their Eastern forebears, and hundreds of thousands of firecrackers resound in cacophonous exultation. Among the many fearsome beasts on display, the lion dancers are second only to the parade’s pièce-de-résistance: A Golden Dragon for the Golden City, 268-feet long and powered by a hundred men and women all working in tandem. Best of all, when the festivities end and the adrenaline fades, you can return to the luxurious comfort of your Lafayette Park home away from home.

Location: Chinatown, San Francisco
